process of Permaculture Design is indicative of an intimate
relation with nature, of an ability to receive rather than
simply impose. Permaculture is inclusive of traditional
methods as well as contemporary means. The crucial phase
of design work lies in understanding and ultimately translating
the needs of a property owner into harmony with the land
itself. This is often a delicate procedure requiring trust
and patience among all parties.
Certainly, there may be instances where an
inner resonance or harmony may not exist between the designer
and the owners, and progress cannot be made without compromise.
Given that the foundation of Permaculture is based upon
an ethics that mandates that no harm be done to the Earth,
some projects may initially seem unworkable.
